Kathmandu: A Saurya Airlines flight which was going to Pokhara with 19 passengers, has crashed in Nepal.
The flight skid off the runway and crashed at the ribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
Saurya Airlines Plane Crashes in Kathmandu
An aircraft belonging to a private airline company with 19 people on board crashed during takeoff at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.
At least 19 people, including aircrew, were aboard the Pokhara-bound Saurya Airlines plane which met with the accident at around 11 am, sources said.
Nepal Plane Crash: Death Toll Reaches 18
While a rescue operation is underway, as of now, a total of eighteen people on board have died in the crash and their bodies have been recovered from the site. The death toll is likely to increase.
Fire Under Control
Local media images showed smoke rising and plane wreckage scattered all over a ditch. A fire has been brought under control.
Rescue Ops Underway, Pilot Taken to the Hospital
The pilot of the aircraft has been taken to a hospital, a security official deployed at the airport told PTI without giving further details.
A fire that broke out from the aircraft has been put off, he added. Police and firefighters are carrying out rescue operations at the accident site. Details about the condition of the passengers were not known.
