Harry Brook attains career-best Test ranking; Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill slip

New Delhi: English players made significant gains in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings released on Wednesday. After their emphatic victory over the West Indies in the second Test match of the series, Harry Brook jumped to a career-best 3rd ranking after his century knock at Trent Bridge.

Joe Root has also closed in on the number one ranked Kiwi player Kane Williamson in the rankings. Root improved as many as 12 rating points to close within seven rating points of the Kiwi star. If Root comes up with yet another thrilling performance with the bat in the third and the final Test against Windies, he will re-claim the number one position.

Brook third-highest run-scorer in the series

Brook surpassed the likes of Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith and Rohit Sharma in the rankings to attain his career-best ranking within 14 Test matches only. In the ongoing Test series against the Windies, Brook is the third highest run-scorer with 195 runs to his name at an average of 65. Not only this, the batter recorded his 32nd Test century in the series and also became the 8th highest run-scorer in the history of the longest format.

Apart from the Indian skipper, another Indian batter who slipped in rankings is top-order batter Shubman Gill. He is now ranked 20th. Other Indian batters in top 10 are Yashasvi Jaiswal (8th) and Virat Kohli (10th). After his first innings’ century, English batter Ollie Pope also jumped eight places to reach the 21st ranking. Meanwhile, opener Ben Duckett also moved six places to attain the 16th position in the rankings.

Meanwhile, in the bowlers list, Shoaib Bashir improved 18 places to reach 53rd position after his five-wicket haul in the ongoing Test series.

Harry Brook has taken a huge jump in the latest ICC Test rankings on the back of sensational form in the ongoing Test series against West Indies.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
