ITR Filing: Taxpayers Alert! Income Tax Return Filing Online becomes easier

New Delhi: Over the last few years, Income Tax Return (ITR) filing in India has become more and more easier due to the online process made available by the government. Income tax payers can go on the official website https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ to file taxes. In last few years, there has been an incredible rise in number of ITRs filed on the government’s e-filing portal. The number of tax returns filed in the country doubled during the 10 year period from FY13 to FY23.

ITR filing/ITR e filing online benefits

ITR filing online process is much more hassle free and less time taking than filing taxes physically.
Tax payers can perform ITR filing online from the comfort of their homes. They don’t need to visit Income-Tax (I-T) Department’s offices which is the case of the physical process.
Online process is also faster. It enables faster processing of refunds.
Moreover, most tax payers get prefilled personal information in their account on the e-filing portal. This saves time of the individual filing the ITR. A tax payer may not get these benefits in the physical process.

Sandeep Puri, Partner, Price Waterhouse & Co Ltd told news agency PTI, “There is no downside of ITR filing online process. People know they have to file taxes. It is a mandatory thing. Then why not do it online!”
