New Delhi: Athletes in Paris must play by the rulebook in and out of the competition. To ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of the Olympic Village, there are certain rules and regulations in place that need to be followed religiously by the athletes and the support staff.
The first athlete accommodations were built for the 1924 Summer Games in Paris and exactly a century later the Olympic Village returns to the French capital. But understandably, a lot has changed since then, including the housing which consisted of small wooden huts that were originally constructed for athletes.
Not only in competition, the best athletes in the world will come face to face in the Games Village as well, which makes the rules and guidelines all the more important to ensure the safety and well-being of each country’s competitors.
In an interview with the popular website PEOPLE, Team USA’s Olympic Village Director Daniel Smith opened up about the dos and don’ts athletes must follow in the Games Village, located in St. Denis, north of Central Paris and right on the Seine River.
According to Smith, the primary goal of implementing the strict rules is to create a healthy and safe environment focused on high and distraction-free performance.
Here are the 10 rules athletes must follow in the Olympic Village
Athletes must live with their country’s team
No family and friends in the Olympic Village
Nursing athletes can bring their infants into Games Village
Athlete security allowed to enter the Olympic Village at specific times
Minor roommates for minor athletes
Athletes are allowed to customise the mattress
Athletes must follow the Olympic quiet hours’ timings
The Olympic Village will include a sports bar – but there will be no alcohol
Athletes can mingle with athletes from other countries
Athletes can have sex in the Olympic Village
Athletes can leave and re-enter Games Village
No pets allowed in Olympic Village
