New Delhi: 14 members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee were injured when their convoy came under fire in Mastung. They were en route to attend a rally in Gwadar on Saturday. The attack, reported by Pakistan-based daily Dawn, underscores the ongoing violence faced by the Baloch activists.
The injured members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee accused the security forces of attacking them. Meanwhile, Kalat Deputy Commissioner Shayak Baloch stated in a press note that the convoy had attacked a Levies checkpoint near Mastung. This led to a blame game between the two sides.
“A law enforcement agency opened fire on the convoy while they were on the way to Quetta-Karachi highway,” said the leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Comittee, media reported.
5 Men Got Critically Injured
According to Pakistani daily, the hospital spokesperson claimed that five of 14 men are seriously injured and in critical situation.
The leader recalled the incident when their convoy was stopped at Thana Sona Khan are, he said “I was also a part of it”. He further informed that security forces did not allowed them to travel to Mastung and allged that security forces used baton-charge and teargas to stop them.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), claiming the state army and police attacked innocent people traveling peacefully to the Baloch rally. Amid ongoing crisis in Balochistan, BYC leader Mahrang Baloch reported that over 200 people were arrested by security personnel. However, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind dismissed BYC’s claims of the attack as false news.
Rind said that Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has already issued a policy statement on the Baloch issue, expressing the government’s willingness to hold negotiations in the Balochistan Assembly, according to Dawn. On Saturday, the government-imposed Section 144 in Quetta, banning all gatherings, processions, and rallies, and sealing roads to the “Red Zone.” A BYC member mentioned they were instructed to hold their public meeting elsewhere instead of Gwadar.
