Hawaii: A former Secret Service agent has been fired after bringing his girlfriend to former US President Barack Obama’s beachside Hawaii home while he was on a task to protect the former president and his family. The agent, who was referred to as “Dale” by his ex-girlfriend, Koryeah Dwanyen, in her new book ‘Undercover Heartbreak: A Memoir of Trust and Trauma’, invited her to the Hawaii estate in 2022 during the Obama family’s absence, a foreign media reported.
Reportedly, the agent, who was tasked with protecting Barack Obama, his wife Michelle Obama, and their daughters Sasha and Malia, had been seeing Koryeah Dwanyen, who wrote a tell-all book about their relationship. Dwanyen claimed that the agent, Dale, invited her to the Obamas’ home and offered to have sex in the First Lady’s bathroom “like a mile-high club”.
Dwanyen claimed in her book, which was published on October 28, that the said agent told her, “No one will know. If anything, I’m the one who could get in trouble”.
Secret Service Confirmed The Incident Saying, Said Agent Was Dismissed
According to the reports, the Secret Service too has confirmed that an incident like the one described in the book did happen and that the agent was dismissed from the job as a result.
The chief of communications for the US Secret Service, Anthony Guglielmi, said that the agent was immediately suspended after the allegations surfaced and was later terminated after the investigation proved that the allegations were true.
“On November 6, 2022, a Secret Service agent, involved in protective functions, brought an individual, who did not have authorised access into a protectees’ residence, without permission,” he said.
“As soon as the Secret Service became aware of the incident, the agent involved was immediately suspended and after a full investigation, terminated,” Guglielmi said adding that the protectees weren’t present when the incident happened, but the agent’s activities were a grave breach of the agency’s policies and the protectees’ trust.
As per the revelations, Dwanyen met the agent while she was on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, where he was tasked with protecting the Obama family.
In her book, Dwanyen revealed that the agent claimed that he was divorced. However, she later found out that he was still married. In her telephone interview with ABC News, she stated that one of her friends warned, “You were a walking national security risk”.
Dwanyen’s memoir has raised questions about the Secret Service’s working culture and the agent’s ability to breach security protocols, while concern has also been raised demanding a need for reform in the agency.
Notably, the Secret Service faced intense scrutiny after an assassination attempt on US President-elect Donald Trump, while he was campaigning at a rally in Pennsylvania’s Butler in July before the presidential elections. That incident prompted the immediate ouster of the then Secret Service director.
