New Delhi: Shooter Sarabjot Singh combined with Manu Bhaker to win India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Tuesday, July 20. Sarabjot and Manu won a bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event after defeating the South Korean pair of Lee Won-ho and Oh Ye-jin 16-10 in the bronze medal match.
Manu and Sarabjot scripted history by becoming the first Indian pair to win a team medal in shooting at the Olympics. Sarabjot received a special call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the bronze triumph and was congratulated for his achievement. PM Modi couldn’t spoke to Manu at the time as she was unavailable due to a regulatory dope test after the event.
“Many, many, many, congratulations to you. You have made your country proud. Your hard work has paid off. Congratulate Manu from my side. You were close in the individual competition, but in team event you achieved glory. Really well done. Your teamwork with Manu, what is the secret behind that?” PM Modi was heard asking Sarabjot on the call.

“Since 2019 we have been playing together in nationals, junior World Cups and other World Cups, we are hoping that we win Gold next time,” Sarabjot replied to PM Modi.
Sarabjot completed his redemption arc at the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning bronze in the mixed team 10m air pistol event after missing on qualifying for the final in the men’s 10m air pistol event last week. Sarabjot was close to qualifying for the final but missed out by a whisker after finishing 9th in the qualifying round.

Nonetheless, he combined with Manu to win his maiden Olympic medal and India’s second at the Paris Games. Manu, who became the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics, has a chance to create history by becoming the first Indian to win three medals in the same edition. She will be next seen in action in the women’s 25m air pistol event where she will be eyeing her third medal at the Paris Games.
PM Modi urged Sarabjot to convey his good wishes to Manu ahead of her 25m air pistol individual event and said he has full faith in her.
“I have complete faith in you guys. Manu has to prepare for her 25m event, once again many congratulations to you,” PM Modi concluded.
