Telangana: Pregnant woman, twins die of dengue in Hanmakonda

A 29-year-old pregnant woman died from dengue while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Hanmakonda, Warangal on Thursday, Tv9 telugu reported.

The victim identified as Bommakanti Sirisha was admitted to the hospital for dengue treatment but her condition worsened as her platelet count dropped.

The doctors performed a C-Section in the hopes of saving her twin daughters, but the twins did not survive, reports said.

This comes in the background of increased dengue cases in the state in July alone. Director of Public Health, Ravindra Nayak, said the state recorded 1,345 cases from July 1 to July 28, 2024. The state recorded about 728 cases in the same time period last year.

Hyderabad DMHO Dr J Venkati said that 206 cases were recorded in July as opposed to just 60 in June. Doctors are reportedly seeing 3-4 cases per day while demand for platelets has also gone up.

Common symptoms for Dengue:

The symptoms include rashes, fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, mild bleeding from the nose among others. Severe dengue symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, fatigue, rapid breathing and it requires hospitalisation for IV fluids, blood transfusions and observation by medical professionals.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had recently launched a campaign in Hyderabad to fight the spread of Dengue by actively engaging with communities and by providing important information to prevent the mosquito-borne disease.
