Thousands of bats were seen hanging from three trees in the public garden of Hanmakonda town, Warangal district of Telangana, causing panic among the residents, Tv9 telugu reported.

Hundreds of bats have also established their habitat on a tree near BED College, which is only a few kilometres away from the public garden. They are also worried that the water tank located next to the park maybe polluted by the excreta of bats.

The bats established their colonies in the nearby old buildings, locals who visited the buildings said.

Doctors and scientists suggest that many diseases can be contracted due to the excretions emitted from bats and they are also found responsible for the cause of Nipah Virus.

Nipah Virus:

The virus is a cause of concern because of its high fatality rate and the ease with which it can spread.  The virus, originating in fruit bats, has been linked to many outbreaks around the world, including in India. A 14-year-old boy recently died from the virus in Malappuram, Kerala after consuming hog plum fruit.

Fruit bats can shed the virus in their saliva, urine, faeces and when this excretions come into contact with fruits, the virus can be transmitted to humans who consume the contaminated fruit.
