New Delhi: Suresh Gopi, BJPs first MP who took oath as the Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum and Natural Gas opened up about his vision on tourism development and his plans to convert Kerala into a tourism hub as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his interactions on multiple occasions.
The newly inducted minister said that he will work with all his counterparts both in the state and the center to ensure that the untapped and unexplored areas of tourism in the country and mostly from Kerala will be identified and will be opened for travelers across the globe.
‘I will certainly look into the possibilities of starting an ‘Ayurveda kandal tourism’ where five acres of land will be identified and mangrove trees will be grown along with medicinal plants. We are looking to develop this in every district of Kerala”, said Suresh Gopi to the media.
“There are a number of untapped destinations and opportunities as far as Kerala is concerned. We will first sit together as a team and prepare a plan in the next few days. A team from the PMO also will be present and then I will discuss the plan with the Prime Minister and take it forward. I will work along with all stakeholders cutting across political spectrum to ensure the best possible results will be delivered”, the union minister said.
Speaking on the Petroleum and Natural Gas portfolio, Suresh Gopi said the new responsibility was unexpected and has come as a surprise. He emphasized on the possibility of oil exploration near the Kollam Sea in Kerala.
“It’s a huge responsibility. So, I have to look at the prospects that the PM is looking forward to. After going through all the content of the next level of emerging petroleum systems in India, maybe I will be able to put in my contribution. Let’s keep our thoughts open. Thanks to the people of Thrissur and Kerala for giving me this opportunity”, said Suresh Gopi after taking charge as Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed Gopi and presented him with a bouquet. Later, he was also welcomed with a bouquet in the Ministry of Tourism office
