New Delhi: Olympic’s glam girl Luana Alonso has hit back at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee for spreading lies about her departure from the Olympic Village in Paris. The Paraguayan swimmer was kicked out of the athletes’ village at the Olympics over alleged ‘inappropriate’ behaviour. She reportedly left the Games venue to visit Disneyland after finishing her Olympics program. The glamorous swimmer failed to progress past the 100m butterfly heats, after finishing sixth in her heat with a time of 1:03.09, falling short of advancing to the semifinals.
But unlike the Tokyo Games where athletes were told to vacate the Games Village after their last event, competitors have been allowed to stay until the end of the Games in Paris. However, Alonso was reportedly sent home before the end of the Games amid reports that she spent a night out in Paris rather than staying to support her teammates.
Did Alonso cause distraction?
She was also accused of distracting other athletes by socialising with other teams and wearing skimpy clothing around the village, instead of the official uniforms. “Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” Paraguayan Olympic Committee Larissa Schaerer said.
“We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the athletes’ village,” she added.

Alonso breaks silence
The 20-year-old has now broken her silence and responded to her banishing, claiming she is the victim of lies and false information. “I just wanted to clarify that I was never kicked out or expelled from anywhere, please stop spreading false information,” she said in a statement on Instagram. “I don’t want to make any statement but I’m not going to let lies affect me either.”
After failing to qualify in the semi-final, Alonso announced her retirement from the sport after failing to reach the next round by a mere 0.24 seconds.
Alonso became the second athlete to be kicked out of the athletes’ village. Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira was sent home for breaching team rules by sneaking out of the team camp with her boyfriend for a night out in Paris.
