Vinesh Phogat hospitalised in Paris due to dehydration in a bid to lose weight – Report

New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, Vinesh Phogat was reportedly hospitalised in Paris due to dehydration, minuted after being disqualified from her final bout against USA’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the women’s 50kg freestyle category. Vinesh suffered from dehydration in a bid to lose weight the night before her final.

Vinesh was disqualified from the competition as she was 150 grams above the permissible limit during her final weigh-in. The 29-year-old wrestler was bidding to become the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Olympics after her stupendous show at the Paris Games on Tuesday. However, her hopes were dashed after she could not make the weight under 50kg.

As per a report in India Today, Vinesh has been admitted to the polyclinic at the Olympic Village and is currently stable. She is resting after putting herself on an extreme regime overnight in order to get her weight within the permissible limits.

Vinesh didn’t sleep the entire night as she cycled, jogged and tried skipping to lose weight ahead of her final bout, but all her efforts went in vain. Vinesh was overweight by around 2 kilos at the end of her campaign on Tuesday where she recorded three wins on the trot to storm into the final, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to do so.

However, she is understood to have replenished herself throughout the day yesterday after her draining bouts. As a result, she was 2kg above the permissible limits and needed to shed that in order to be eligible to fight for the elusive gold medal in the final.

Vinesh Phogat reportedly fainted due to dehydration after trying to lose weight and has been admitted to a hospital in Paris. Vinesh was disqualified from her gold medal match in the women’s 50kg category on Wednesday due to being overweight.  Other Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
