New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in their Indian Premier League match on Friday to register their first ever victory against the side at Chepauk. By virtue of this win, SRH kept their playoff hopes alive while for Super Kings, it seems an end of the road.
Chasing a modest total of 155, the Sunrisers completed the task in 18.4 overs with Ishan Kishan (44), Kamindu Mendis (32 not out) and Nitish Reddy (19 not out) making valuable contributions with the bat, after Abhishek Sharma (0) and Travis Head (19) failed to make much impact. Aniket Verma also scored 19 runs while Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for CSK with two wickets.

Dewald Brevis – only silver lining for CSK
Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj and Ravindra Jadeja also picked a wicket each. Earlier, sent into bat, Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 154 after an average batting display. Dewald Brevis was the only batter to standout in the unit with a worthy 25-ball 42 while teenager Ayush Mhatre made 30 runs in 19 deliveries. Rest of the CSK batters struggled to get going in the must-win game.
Harshal Patel was SRH’s wrecker-in-chief with the ball, returning excellent figures of 4/28 in four overs while skipper Pat Cummins too bowled very well to pick 2/21. This was Chennai Super Kings’ seventh loss in nine matches while Hyderabad registered their third victory in as many games. SRH are on the eighth spot in points table while CSK are placed at the bottom.
