Debutant Riyan Parag shines in third ODI against Sri Lanka with three wickets – WATCH

New Delhi: Debutant Riyan Parag picked up three wickets in the third ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premdasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, August 7. He was handed his maiden ODI cap by star batter Virat Kohli ahead of the final ODI of the series.

Avishka scored 40 runs in the second ODI and started his innings cautiously but he changed gears and put the Indian bowlers under pressure in the middle overs. He was in sight of the fourth century of his career after moving to 96 runs with a boundary in the 36th over of Riyan Parag.

But Parag bowled a full delivery which didn’t turn and Fernando got beaten on the inside edge to get rapped on the front pad in front of the stumps. Fernando did not consider for a review and made his way back to the pavilion after missing his century.

The Men in Blue included Riyan Parag instead of Arshdeep Singh to have another spin-bowling option on the dry pitch. Parag recently rolled his arm over in the three-match T20I series and took three wickets in the first T20I.

Parag struck twice again to dismiss Asalanka and Wellalage

Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka provided a great to the Sri Lankan innings and stitched an 89-run partnership for the first wicket. Axar Patel dismissed Nissanka on 45(65) and provided team India their first breakthrough.

Parag got the wicket of Fernando on 96(102) and Asalanka on 10 (12) and helped the Men in Blue to claw their way back into the game. He also dismissed Dunith Wellalage and picked up his third wicket of the match. Parag bowled 9 overs and conceded 54 runs. Kuldeep, Siraj, Axar and Sundar also got one wicket each.

Team India need 249 runs to level the three-match ODI series. The first ODI ended in a draw while Sri Lanka defeated Rohit Sharma and co. in the second ODI.
