Unfortunately, during the weigh-in on the second day, she was found to exceed the weight limit by just 100 grams. This minor excess led to her disqualification from the competition. In a recent interview, she disclosed that home-cooked meals, known as “ghar ka khana,” are her ultimate comfort food after a strenuous day of training. As per the reports, the wrestler reveals that after a busy day or victory after a match, nothing can beat a good sleep and hot chapatis with home-churned butter and chutney.
Reflecting on her early career, Vinesh Phogat said that she initially lacked knowledge about an athlete’s specific nutritional requirements. She remembered not understanding which foods were rich in protein and often making poor dietary choices. She confessed, “I didn’t know what foods contained protein or didn’t. Sometimes I’d skip breakfast, have only roti for lunch, or just eat eggs before sleeping.” This lack of awareness about proper nutrition highlighted the challenges she faced in maintaining an adequate diet during the early stages of her athletic journey.
Nowadays, Vinesh Phogat follows a more structured approach to her diet. While she maintains some flexibility, she ensures that her meals are consumed at specific times. Her pre-training meals often include nutritious options such as eggs, oats, tomatoes, or bread.
For lunch, she prefers a balanced meal consisting of roti, seasonal vegetables, and protein-rich dishes like chana or rajma, along with dahi, salad, or fruit. Dinner typically features roti, green vegetables, and eggs, providing her with the necessary nutrients to recover and prepare for the next day’s training.
Phogat credits her success to a well-balanced diet, rigorous training sessions, and unwavering self-confidence. This combination has enabled her to perform at her best and achieve remarkable results in her wrestling career which now will surely be missed!!
