India In Touch With Bangladesh Army To Create Safe Passage For Its Nationals Amid Unrest

New Delhi: The Indian High Commission in coordination with Bangladesh Army and authorities has facilitated a safe passage for Indian nationals to borders, as the country goes through its worst political unrest in decades. The High Commission has advised on transport, movement issues and also coordinated with airport and airlines for flights. So far, the team has received over 350 calls in the past two days.

High Commission in action to safeguard Indian nationals  

Mission has facilitated movement of Indian nationals including project personnel across the land borders, as situations turned life threatening at some locations.It has facilitated travel of members of IRCON Khulna, L&T, RITES, Tata Projects, Afcons and Transrail sirajganj – through land border.The mission has advised on transport and movement issues and also coordinated with airport and airlines for flights movements of Indian Nationals including project personnel to Airport.Personnel of Ashoka Build Con, RITES, Afcons, ITD Cementation (Sirajganj), KEC, Transrail sirajganj and professionals of various Indian companies such as Sun Pharma, IOCL, NTPC, etc, have been attended.Mission has also facilitated consular cases including immigration. Emergency Certificate have been issued to Indian nationals to facilitate their travel in emergency cases.Mission has ensured that airlines continue to operate and not discontinue the services, which serves as a big enabler to ensure that people are not left stranded.

Bangladesh is gripped in political unrest which was triggered after violent protests hit the country against government’s controversial quota bill. The turmoil went out of hands and resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who faced a political coup.

Hasina, sought India’s help at short notice and travelled to the national capital region, as situation turned life threatening for her on Monday. She is currently in India at an undisclosed location amid reports of her asylum request to accessible nations.
