Paris Olympics 2024, India’s Day 14 schedule, medal events on Aug 9: Aman Sehrawat aims for bronze

New Delhi: Following a fruitful Day 13 at the Paris 2024 Olympics, India will look to add another medal to their tally on August 9, the 14th day at the 33rd edition of the Summer Games. Two medals were added to take India’s medal count to five at the Paris Games.

The Indian men’s hockey team broke a barren run of a week to win the country’s fourth medal of the campaign. Harmanpreet Singh’s men edged past Spain 2-1 in the third-place play-off to claim a second successive Olympic bronze medal. It was India’s 13th Olympic medal in Olympic hockey.

A few hours later, India’s ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra missed out on a gold but managed to claim a silver in the men’s javelin throw. Neeraj’s Pakistani rival Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record of 92.97m throw to win his country’s first individual Olympic gold.

On Friday, India have the opportunity to add another medal to its tally as India’s lone male wrestler in Paris, Aman Sehrawat competes for the bronze medal in men’s 57kg wrestling. On Thursday, he lost to Japanese top-seed Rei Higuchi in the 57kg freestyle semifinal bout.  The 21-year-old Aman will now face Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz in the bronze medal match.

Aman lost a lopsided semifinal against 28-year-old Higuchi – the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist – as the Japanese thrashed the Indian to stamp his technical superiority with a 10-0 win in just over two minutes.

In track and field, the women’s and men’s relay teams will be in action in Round 1 while Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will compete in the women’s individual golf event.
