New Delhi: After people from Indian sporting fraternity and all other walks of life came in support of wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from Paris Olympics, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is the latest one to join the group. The Master Blaster has extended his support to the wrestler after the Indian Olympian requested the sports’ highest court to award her a shared silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday.
CAS to pronounce verdict soon
Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has stated that the verdict on awarding Phogat a silver following her disqualification from the women’s 50 kg gold medal bout will be out prior to the end of the Summer Games in Paris. Tendulkar took to social media handle X and said that the Indian wrestler has been robbed of a deserving silver medal. The veteran cricketer also said that everyone should pray that Vinesh gets the recognition she deserves.
“Every sport has rules and those rules need to be seen in context, maybe even revisited at times. Vinesh Phogat qualified fair and square for the finals. Her disqualification by weight, was before the finals, and hence, for her to be robbed of a deserving silver medal defies logic and sporting sense,” Tendulkar wrote.

Just a day after creating history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to enter the Olympic final, Vinesh was disqualified on the day of her elusive gold medal contest. The Indian wrestler subsequently challenged the decision at the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS), filing two appeals on Wednesday and subsequently announcing retirement from wrestling. The wrestler was in a supreme form at the Paris Games where she registered dominating wins over her opponents.
