New Delhi: India added one more medal to their tally at the Paris Olympics 2024 after Aman Sehrawat defeated Darian Cruz 13-5 and won the bronze medal in the men’s 57 Kg freestyle wrestling on Friday, August 9.
Aman Sehrawat is the youngest ever individual Olympic medallist from India at 21 years 0 months and 24 days. He betters PV Sindhu’s record, who was 21 years 1 month and 14 days old when she won silver at the Rio Olympics 2016.
In the earlier stages, Aman defeated Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov in the round of 16. He defeated Albenia’s Zelimkhan Abakarov in the quarterfinal but faced a straightforward defeat against Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semi-final.
India won two medals on August 8 at the Paris Olympics 2024. Indian hockey team beat Spain 2-1 and won the bronze medal and Neeraj Chopra also won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final. India laid big hopes on the men’s hockey team and Neeraj Chopra’s shoulders and both delivered when it mattered the most to improve the nation’s table ranking at the mega event.
Shooter Manu Bhaker opened India’s tally at the Summer Games with a bronze medal effort in the women’s 10m air pistol event. She didn’t stop there and won another bronze alongside Sarabjot Singh in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. Manu etched her name in the history of Indian sports by becoming the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition at the Olympics after independence.
On August 1, shooter Swapnil Kusale clinched another bronze medal for India in the men’s 50m rifle (three positions). But after that Indian contingent failed to win any medals for the nation. On the 13th day, Neeraj Chopra and the hockey team assured two medals and Aman Sehrawat won another medal on the 14th day.
Where does India stand in Paris Olympics 2024 medals table?
Thanks to Aman Sehrawat, India claimed its first medal in wrestling at the Summer Games 2024. India remained in the ranking of 50s for most of the days but the better performances of other nations have slipped India a bit more in the standings despite the addition of three medals in two days.
India are currently placed 65th in the Paris Olympics 2024 medals table with six medals in total – a silver and five bronze.
China is in the top position with 77 medals out of which 33 are gold and USA is in the second position with 107 medals.
