New Delhi: Anshul Jubli was knocked out in just 19 seconds by Australian Quillan Salkilld at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on February 9, Sunday. But his defeat sparked controversy as UFC Bantamweight Champion Merab Dvalishvili thought it was an early stoppage by the referee.
The bout started with Salkilld caught Jubli with a body shot and them stunned him with a big right hand that threw him into the canvas and Jubli was down to the ground. The refree immediately rushed down in between the fight and stopped the bout.
The rage started after the bout as from one angle, after gettting hit by Salkilld Jubli was trying to grapple his legs to take him down but refree thought Jubli was unconsious after the punch and stopped the fight.
“It’s early! Early stoppage! What the F!” UFC Bantamweight champion said after the fight.
The number 10 ranked fighter in the lightweight division Renato Moicano also mocked referee with a funny remark after Jubli’s fight.
“20 years to have an Indian in UFC and the referee does that (laughing emojis)” Moicano added.
This was the back-to-back loss for top Indian MMA prospect in the UFC and both losses came with a knock out loss. Now Jubli have to rethink about his losses and try to make a solid comeback in the UFC.
Jubli’s fight was the opening bout in the UFC 312 fight card and he had the opportunity to make his name but he failed to do so. Jubli was not looking confident from the start and got knocked out in just 19 seconds.
UFC Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria’s brother made a dashing debut in the UFC as Aleksandre Topuria defeated Colby Thickness via unanimous decision.
