‘I’m Eternally Grateful’: Sheikh Hasina’s Son Thanks PM For Quick Action in Saving His Mother’s Life

New Delhi: Sheikh Hasina‘s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joyu on Friday expressed “gratitude” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “saving” his mother’s life by granting her “temporary stay” in India to the ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister.

Sajeeb said, “My message to the government of India, is my personal gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his government’s quick action in saving my mother’s life. I am eternally grateful.”

The 76-year-old Hasina was forced to resign after a 45-minute request from the Army and fled to India in a military aircraft following the violent political turmoil in Bangladesh.

Sajeeb, who was the political advisor to Hasina further urged India to take the leadership role in the world and “not let other foreign powers dictate the situation.”

“My second message is that India needs to take a leadership role in the world, and not let other foreign powers dictate the situation.”

“Because this is India’s neighbourhood. This is India’s eastern side,” he added.

Further defending her mother, Sajeeb said, ” It is a proven track record that no one can deny that Sheikh Hasina‘s government kept peace in Bangladesh, kept economic growth, stopped insurgency and kept the eastern side of our subcontinent stable. We are the only government that has proven we can do it. Other governments have tried. They have failed…”

Speaking on Hindus and other minorities under attack, Sajeeb said, “So the last 15 years were the safest period in Bangladesh‘s history for minorities, for Bangladesh itself. And it was also the period of the highest economic development growth. Even those who are criticizing Sheikh Hasina cannot deny it. So right now this non-elected government does not have the support of almost the entire population of Bangladesh, which has no popular mandate, are they going to be able to keep the minority safe?”

“You are already seeing the results. The minorities are trying to flee the country. I am worried about them…I want to do what I can to keep the minority safe, restore law and order to Bangladesh, to bring back democracy. This is our goal.”
