New Delhi: Southampton Brave’s all-rounder Kieron Pollard smashed five back-to-back sixes during his side’s clash against Trent Rockets at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on August 10. Chasing the target of 127 runs, Alex Davies and James Vince stitched a 43-run partnership for the first wicket.
But the middle order failure put Southampton Brave in the difficult situation. Pollard came to bat after the dismissal of Laurie Evans and was struggling in the middle. Rockets bowlers put pressure on the Brave’s batters but Pollard decided to attack ace bowler Rashid Khan.
He smashed the first six over deep midwicket on the 81st ball on the next two deliveries Pollard decided to go over long-off. On the 84th ball, he smacked another six over deep midwicket and on the 85th ball, he hit Rashid for a maximum over long-off again.
Pollard’s brilliant hitting on a difficult pitch turned the match in Brave’s favour and they won the match by 2 wickets. Earlier in the match, Rockets scored 126 runs in the 100 balls. Tom Banton scored 30 runs off 17 balls and the middle order also contributed to the team’s total in tough conditions. Chris Jordan picked up three wickets and Jofra Archer also took two wickets in the match.
‘Lucky enough to play a lot against Rashid’: Kieron Pollard
After the match Pollard said that he played a lot of cricket against Rashid Khan which helped him hitting five consecutive sixes. He also said that Rashid is world class bowler but he backed his strengths.
“Had to make a play at some point, it wasn’t not an easy pitch to come in and get going straightaway. Had to calculate and pick my bowler, had a better chance going into the small side (against Rashid) and luckily it came off. Lucky enough to play a lot against him (Rashid) he is a world-class bowler and got me out a lot of times as well. I just backed my strengths (talking about his 5 successive sixes) which is to hit straight and he bowled 3 full balls in my arc” Pollard said in the post-match presentation.
