New Delhi: The United State surpassed China in the medal tally on the final day of the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday (August 11). With 40 gold, 42 silver and 42 bronze medals, the US topped the charts of the Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally with a total of 126 medals.
Thanks to the US women’s basketball team clinching the gold in a thrilling fashion, pipping France 67-66 in the final. This was US’s last gold medal, which helped them level with China’s 40 gold medals on the medal tally. The US will top the table on the virtue of winning more silver medals – 42 – in comparison to China’s 27. China’s overall medal tally in this Summer Games was 91, including 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze.
While US has continued to hold the pole position for the fourth straight Olympics, China remains second for as many editions. Japan has finished third with 20 gold medals, and overall 45 medals. Australia, who accounted for their most gold medals (18) in an Olympics edition, will finish fourth behind Japan despite having more medals in total (53). The rule indicates that a country or a contingent with most gold medals will be listed at the top.
Meanwhile, hosts France was placed at fifth position with 64 medals, including 16 gold, 26 silver and 22 bronze medals.
