Manu Bhaker hungry to win more Olympic medals for India

New Delhi: For some athletes winning an Olympic medal is akin to fulfilling a lifelong dream but for Manu Bhaker it’s a mission. The iconic Indian shooter, who has become a household name after winning two medals at the Paris 2024 Games, doesn’t want to stop at just two.

After etching her name in the history books with a superb performance in Paris, Bhaker has set her sights on winning more medals for her country at the Olympics in the future.

The 22-year-old Haryana shooter scripted history by becoming the first Indian athlete in the post-independence era to win two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games.

She opened her account by winning the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol before clinching another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event — where she had paired with Sarabjot Singh.

She missed out on a third bronze by a whisker, finishing fourth in the 25m pistol event.

Bhaker aims for multiple medals

In an interview with PTI videos, Bhaker spoke about her incredible feat and her aim for the future. The ace shooter said that she is hungry to win more medals for India.

“I think we all work hard to win medals. But if that happens (winning more than 2 individual medals at the Olympics) then that would be great. The aim is to work hard and better this performance in the future.

“(I am) aiming to win many more Olympic medals for India,” added Bhaker, who returned to the country after participating in the closing ceremony.

Upon her arrival in India, Bhaker recieved a rousing reception from the crowd at the Delhi airport. She was named India’s flag-bearer alongside hockey legend PR Sreejesh at the closing ceremony on Sunday.

“Being the flag bearer was the opportunity of a lifetime, I am grateful that I got this opportunity and will cherish this for a lifetime,” she said.
