New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced a change in venue for the first T20I between India and Bangladesh in the upcoming three-match series between the two teams. The 1st T20I which was scheduled to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala has been shifted to Gwalior. India are scheduled to play two Tests and three T20Is against Bangladesh starting September 19.
The first T20I has been shifted from Dharamsala to Gwalior due to renovation work being carried out in the dressing rooms of the HPCA Stadium. The T20I series opener between India and Bangladesh will now be played at the newly-constructed Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium.
It will be the first international fixture in Gwalior since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010 where Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer in history to score a double ton in ODIs. The Master Blaster hammered 200 not out of 147 balls to power India to a thumping 153-run victory in the match. The 1st T20I will also mark the inaugural international game at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium.
“The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on 6th October 2024, will now take place in Gwalior owing to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms,” BCCI said in a press release.
