‘We are preparing’: PM Modi announces India’s dream to host 2036 Olympics in Independence Day speech

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics. During his Independence Day speech, PM Modi said that India has proven its capability to host large-scale events. He also said that it is the country’s dream to host the 2036 Olympics and the government is making preparations for the same.

“India organising the G20 Summit on a large scale has proven that India has the capability to organise large-scale events…It is the dream of India to host 2036 Olympics, we are making preparations for that” PM Modi said while addressing the nation from Red Fort.

Earlier this month, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, also confirmed this development in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, focusing on India’s commitment to the bid.

The allotment of hosting rights for the Olympic Games is done by the IOC through a detailed selection process. The Future Host Commission (FHC) also plays a crucial role in assessing the potential host for the Summer Games. Ahmedabad is being seen as a front-runner to host the 2036 Olympics.

PM Modi lauds Paris Olympics athletes, sends best wishes to para-athletes

PM Modi also congratulated athletes for their performance in the Paris Olympics 2024. India won six medals and finished at the 71st position in the medal tally. He acknowledged the efforts of the Indian Athletes in Paris and congratulated them for their brilliant performances. He also extended his best wishes to para-athletes ahead of the Paralympics 2024.

“My dear countrymen, today we have the youngsters who raised our tricolor at the Paris Olympics. I would like to congratulate all our athletes on behalf of 140 crore Indians. We will move ahead with new dreams and resolutions and achieve them with our constant efforts. In a few days our para-athletes will also be flying to Paris for the Paralympics, I extend by best wishes to them as well” said PM Modi during his speech.
