Secret Service Pulls Agents from Biden’s Detail to Bolster Trump’s Security

In response to last month’s assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump, the Secret Service has intensified his security, including an unprecedented move to temporarily assign members of President Biden’s protective team to safeguard Mr. Trump.

This heightened security effort also includes the deployment of ballistic glass, specifically designed to repel bullets, at future outdoor campaign rallies for the former president. Several individuals familiar with the enhanced security measures, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the details, confirmed the changes, as per a report from the New York Times.

Here is what you need to know

The decision to reassign agents from a sitting president’s team to protect a former president is unprecedented. However, a Secret Service official, who requested anonymity, reportedly explained that the increased threat against Mr. Trump made the move necessary.

Neither the White House nor the Trump campaign have spoken on the matter.

The changes come after a shocking incident on July 13, when a gunman opened fire at an outdoor Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack resulted in Mr. Trump sustaining a injury, while a spectator was killed and two others were seriously wounded. The FBI is currently investigating the shooting, and congressional leaders have launched inquiries into the security lapses.

The Secret Service has since acknowledged its responsibility for the security failures that allowed the attack to occur. Kimberly A. Cheatle, who was the agency’s director at the time, has resigned and been replaced in the wake of the incident. With these new security measures in place, the Secret Service aims to prevent any further threats to Mr. Trump as he continues his campaign activities.
