New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) youngster Yash Dayal lauded Virat Kohli for backing him to the hilt and guiding him during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Dayal, who joined RCB ahead of IPL 2024, revealed Kohli’s backing made him feel at ease in his new franchise and settled his nerves in his debut season for the team.
Dayal was released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2024 auction following a forgetful campaign in IPL 2023 where he managed to play only 5 matches for the 2022 champions and was smashed for 5 sixes in an over by Rinku Singh, who pulled off a heist for Kolkata Knight Riders in the game. Dayal said it was senior batter Kohli who made him feel welcomed at the franchise.
“The biggest thing he (Kohli) said to me was that he will back me the whole season,” Dayal told Sports Tak.
Kohli’s approach with the youngsters in the team struck a chord with Dayal, who insisted the RCB superstar is nothing like what he is portrayed on television. The assurance from a senior figure like Kohli helped Dayal perform his role better in the team as he went on to enjoy a great season.
“He told me that I will not feel like I have come to a new place, and he backed me completely. So this was a huge boost up and he talks to the youngsters in such a very healthy way and he is nothing like what people talk about on TV. I don’t feel like that,” Dayal added.

He went on to pick up 15 wickets in 14 matches for RCB at an economy rate of 9.15 and played a crucial role in helping them qualify for the playoffs. However, RCB failed to go the distance once again as they ended up losing in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.
