New Delhi: Pakistan batters Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan ended up running four runs on the second day of the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
While leading Pakistan’s charge after an early batting stumbles, Shakeel has been involved in a couple of crucial partnerships with Saim Ayub and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. During the 49th over of the Pakistan innings, Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana pitched a full length delivery to Shakeel outside the off-stump area. The southpaw drove it straight to mid-off, where Shoriful missed the attempted dive as the ball went past him.
However, Shorriful’s interception subdued the ball from moving to the boundary cushion but Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto showed laxity in collecting the red cherry from the outfield. As a result, Shakeel and Rizwan completed four runs between the wickets even though a boundary couldn’t be fetched.

Saud Shakeel sets joint-fastest record for Pakistan
Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan bolstered Pakistan’s innings as they stitched a 200-plus-run partnership for fifth wicket. The Karachi-born Shakeel completed his third Test ton in the mission to lift his side after reduced to 16 for 3 in the first session of Day 1.
Shakeel hit nine boundaries without a six, playing some remarkable strokes against the likes of Rana, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. During his valiant innings, the Pakistan Test vice-captain completed 1000 runs in the red-ball format. He joined former Pakistan batter Saeed Ahmed to complete 1000 runs in the fewest innings (20).
On other hand, Mohammad Rizwan has ably supported Shakeel with some breathtaking upper-cuts during his third Test century. Pakistan was 343 for 4 after 91 overs with both Shakeel and Rizwan holding their firm on the ground.
