Nicholas Pooran surpasses Suryakumar Yadav, Jos Buttler in elite T20I list

New Delhi: Nicholas Pooran was on fire for West Indies during the first T20I of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa. During the game played at the Brian Lara Stadium  in Tarouba, the wicketkeeper-batter displayed the best of his abilities to remain unbeaten on 65 runs off just 26 deliveries.

During his special knock, she hit two fours and monstrous seven sixes to rock the stadium. His attacking knock helped the Men in Maroon chase down the target of 175 runs in 17.5 overs for the loss of three wickets and get the better of the Aiden Markram-led side by seven wickets.

Pooran enters elite list

After smashing a record seven sixes during the series opener, the West Indies batter took his tally of sixes to 139 in the shortest format of the game. In as many as 96 T20I games played till now, Pooran has recorded 139 sixes, which is the third most by any batter in T20Is. On the way to his record, the West Indies player surpassed Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (134), India’s Suryakumar Yadav (136), and England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler (137) to take the number 3 position.

India skipper Rohit Sharma leads the elite list has played 159 T20I games till in his career and smashed 205 sixes. Rohit, who quit from the shortest format of the game after India’s T20 World Cup triumph, is the first and only batter in the world to complete a double century of sixes in T20Is.

Rohit is followed by New Zealand opener Martin Guptill. The Kiwi star has 173 sixes to his name in 122 matches. On the list of batters with the most sixes in T20s, Pooran is in the No. 5 position. He has 537 sixes to his name in 352 T20 matches played so far. The overall record for most sixes in T20s is held by Chris Gayle with 1056 maximums.
