New Delhi: Having ascended to the top spot in the BWF para badminton rankings earlier this year, para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj has set his eyes on the elusive gold medal at the upcoming Paris Paralympics 2024. Yathiraj, who is also an IAS officer, clinched a silver medal in the badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics.
The Tokyo silver medallist, who was on frontline duty during the Covid-19 pandemic, has set a remarkable example of excelling in academics as well as sports at the same time. In June this year, Yathiraj surpassed French icon Lucas Mazur to take the top spot in the Para Badminton World Rankings but in the final match of the Paralympics in Tokyo, he fell short of claiming the gold medal.
Suhas eyes gold in Paris
Born with an ankle impairment, Suhas, who is an engineer, an IAS officer and the best para shuttler in the world, has proved that nothing is impossible to achieve if you have the willingness to do so. His love for the game of badminton from the childhood pushed him towards playing local tournaments which turned into national level competitions. He kept pursing his dreams and eventually it got him the fruits as he went on to represent the country at the biggest sporting stage.
After India failed to secure any medals at the Paris Olympics in Badminton, all eyes would be on Suhas Yathiraj to get India that elusive gold in the sport. Yathiraj himself has said that his eyes are set on top-podium finish at the Paris Games.
Suhas who is one of the medal prospects for India at the upcoming event, said that he has dedicated his life to sports and he will give his best shot at the upcoming event.
