India should not travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025, says Danish Kaneria

New Delhi: Amid political tensions between India and Pakistan, the possibility of Indian cricket team travelling to Pakistan for then Champions Trophy 2025 looks uncertain. Former cricket player Danish Kaneria has also suggested that India should avoid travelling to the neighbouring country for the next year’s big event.

India did not travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup as the tournament then was held in a hybrid mode co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Kaneria said that looking at the situation in Pakistan, the Indian cricket team should not travel to the neighbouring country. Kaneria was speaking to Sports Tak.

“Look at the situation in Pakistan I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan, and Pakistan should think about it,” Kaneria said on Sports Tak. “The ICC will make their decision and most likely Champions Trophy will be played in a hybrid model in Dubai”.

“The safety of the players is the first priority. Respect is the second priority. I think BCCI is doing a great job. Whatever their decision is, other countries will also have to accept that. I think it will be a hybrid model” Kaneria added.

The former player also said that the there have been investments from the Pakistan Cricket Board to improve the infrastructure and better the quality of the stadiums to host the Champions Trophy but it is not sufficient. He said that they are at it and another important thing they need to address is the security concern which is a major issue.

“They’re (PCB) equipped but they must upgrade the infrastructure first,” Kaneria said. “Security is the biggest concern, a big question mark.” Pakistan have decided to upgrade the stadiums at Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
