New Delhi: Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has slipped out of the top 10 in the latest Test rankings for the first time in five years. After a series of failures in the Bangladesh Test series at home, which Pakistan lost 0-2, Babar has dropped out of the top 10 list for the first time since December 2019 when he was ranked 13th.
After the star batters decline to the 12th spot, Mohammad Rizwan is the only other batter from Pakistan to feature in the top 10. Meanwhile, Babar managed just 64 runs across four innings in the recently-concluded Bangladesh series where the hosts suffered humiliation. The team also dropped to number 8 in the latest rankings after a whitewash.
No Test century for Babar since December 2022
The former captain has not scored a century in the longest format of the game since December 2022 and has even failed to score a single fifty in the last 16 innings in the red-ball format. Pakistan lost the first Test match by 10 wickets while went down in the second Test by 6 wickets at Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, star England player Joe Root, who smashed couple of centuries in the Test match, continues to dominate the batting chart.
Root has 922 ranking points, 63 more than second-placed New Zealander Kane Williamson. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, Australia’s Steve Smith and England’s Harry Brook are on the third, fourth and fifth spot respectively. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma continues to be the top-ranked batter for India at the 6th spot and he is followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli at No. 7 and No. 8. All the Indian batters have an opportunity of bettering their positions in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. Usman Khawaja and Mohammad Rizwan sit on the ninth and tenth place respectively.
