New Delhi: Simran Sharma made the country proud by bagging the 28th medal for India at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Saturday. Simran clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 200m T12 event with a personal best timing of 24.75s, finishing third on the podium.
This is India’s 16th medal in para-athletics at the showpiece event. Simran earlier participated in the 100m event but unfortunately finished fourth. This was also India’s second bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics in the women’s 200m event. Meanwhile, Cuba’s Omara Durand Elias clinched the elusive gold medal with a time of 23.62s while Venezuela’s Alejandra Paola Perez Lopez bagged silver, clocking a time of 24.19s.
After missing the 100m bronze medal by 0.05s, Simran Sharma clinches bronze in the 200m with a personal best timing of 24.75s.

T12 classification for visually impaired
India has till now won six gold medals, nine silver medals and 13 bronze medals at the ongoing edition so far. The T12 classification in the Paralympics is for the athletes with visual impairments. The 24-year-old sprinter was born prematurely and spent the next 10 weeks in an incubator where it was found that she is visually impaired. The Indian, who became world champion this year in Kobe, Japan, faced numerous challenges throughout her life, including her father’s chronic illness and eventual passing.
