New Delhi: Travis Head displayed brilliant power-hitting during the first T20I between England and Australia at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, September 11. Head opened the batting for Australia and smacked a 19-ball 50 to give them a good start against Three Lions.
Head and his opening partner Matthew Short took full advantage of the powerplay and stitched an 86-run partnership in the first six overs. Head smashed two consecutive boundaries in the first two deliveries off Sam Curran’s over. He continued his slaughter and smacked three back-to-back maximums against the all-rounder. He finished the over with a boundary towards extra cover, scoring 30 runs in six deliveries.

He played brilliant innings which included a mix of power hitting and placement. Head was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood on 59 runs. His fiery knock was pure carnage, as he rocketed from 15 to 51 in just 7 deliveries. His brilliant knock stunned England’s new skipper Phil Salt and his bowlers. Head is in outstanding form in the T20s this year, scoring 1,411 runs at an excellent strike rate of 181.36.

Australia defeated England by 28 runs in the first T20I at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday. Head and Short provided a brilliant to Aussies in the powerplay and Josh Inglis also continued his great form in T20Is by scoring 37 runs off 27 balls. England bowlers made a great comeback and dismissed Australia’s middle order cheaply. Livingstone took three wickets while Topley and Archer also picked up two wickets each.
Australian bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals during the run-chase and successfully defended 179 runs. Livingstone scored 37 runs off 27 balls but other batters didn’t contribute much with the bat. Sean Abbott picked up three wickets while Hazlewood and Zampa also took two wickets each.
