New Delhi: Paralympics gold medallist Navdeep Singh touched Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a heart-warming gesture on Thursday, September 12. During the interaction of PM with all the Indian participants of Paris Paralympics at his official residence in Delhi, Navdeep expressed his wish to present Mr. Modi his cap.
The PM sat down to oblige the request of the 23-year-old Navdeep, who has been suffering with the condition of dwarfism from his childhood following his premature birth only in seven months.
Navdeep put the cap on the 73-year-old PM Modi before the two burst into laughter. The Indian PM also signed on the left side of Navdeep’s shirt upon the para athlete’s request. Modi later quipped, asking Navdeep over his aggression on the field.

Navdeep Singh clinched gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F41 class to become the first Indian to account for a medal in the respected category. He initially finished second in the event with a throw of 47.32m, but his medal was upgraded from silver to gold after Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayeh was disqualified for violating competition rules.
India record best medal tally in Paralympics
With seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals, India returned with a total of 29 medals from the French capital in the 19th edition of the Paralympic Games. The 84-member Indian Paralympic contingent overhauled the 19-medal landmark achieved in Tokyo three years ago.
India also bagged the most gold medals in a single edition of the Paralympics, bettering the mark at Tokyo (five gold medals) as well. Sumit Antil (men’s javelin throw F64) and Avani Lekhara (women’s 10m air rifle SH1) defended their gold medals in Paris.
Nitesh Kumar (men’s singles SL3), Praveen Kumar (men’s high jump T64), Dharambir Nain (men’s club throw F51), Harvinder Singh (men’s individual recurve) and Navdeep are other gold medallists from the country.
