Chennai likely to roll out red soil pitch for first Test against Bangladesh – Report

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Co. have started preparations for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh which is set to begin on September 19 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Men in Blue will look to take the advantage away from Bangladesh.

Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 2-0 on their home soil in Rawalpindi and won their first-ever Test series in Pakistan. The Bangla Tigers will look to maintain their momentum against the dominating Team India.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the first Test between India and Bangladesh is set to take place on the red soil. Najmul Shanto and Co. are used to playing on black-soil surfaces which helps the spinners right from Day 1.

On the other hand, red soil offers more help for the fast bowlers with extra bounce and swing in the first few days of the Test match. The spinners struggle to perform on the red soil in the initial days but get in the game as the match progresses.

Indian players have reached in Chennai and have undergone their first training session since the limited-over tour against Sri Lanka. Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has also joined India’s coaching staff ahead of the Test series.

In the video posted by the BCCI, Morkel was seen spending time with young Indian fast bowlers like Akash Deep and Yash Dayal. He was also seen chatting with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

India and Bangladesh squads for the Test series

India and Bangladesh have already announced their squads for the Test series. For the Men in Blue, Virat Kohli returned to the Test after missing the five-match series against Ben Stokes and Co. Rishabh Pant is also making a comeback in the team after the life-threatening car accident.

The Bangla Tigers have only made one change to their Test team from the Pakistan tour with Jaker Ali replacing injured pacer Shoriful Islam in the squad.
