New Delhi: In what can be a big concern for India heading into the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, opening Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen consistently struggling in the nets against senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The expectations are high from the young left-handed opener, who was India’s best batter in the Test series against England at home earlier this year where he piled on runs for fun.
However, after his remarkable show against England, the pressure is immense on Jaiswal, who will be hoping to avoid second-season blues and looking to continue his good form against Bangladesh in the longest format. The left-hander has so far come across as an assuring figure in his brief Test career for India. However, his struggles were left exposed against Bumrah in Team India’s practice session in Chennai on Monday ahead of the 1st Test against Bangladesh.
As per a report in PTI, Jaiswal spent a lot of time in the nets facing Bumrah on Monday and was a no-match against the fast bowler, arguably one of the best in the world. Bumrah sent Jaiswal’s stumps cartwheeling as he was cleaned up twice by the pacer and was beaten several times on the outside edge of his bat. Jaiswal struggled against pace, bounce and swing.
The report further added that Jaiswal seemed unaware of where his off-stump was as he struggled heavily against Bumrah’s pace and swing. His struggles were not limited to the senior India pacer as net bowlers Simarjeet Singh, Gurnoor Brar and Gurjanpreet Singh also beat his outside edge on multiple occasions.
Virat Kohli guides Yashasvi Jaiswal
As per the report, senior India batter Virat Kohli stepped in to intervene and guide Jaiswal after witnessing him struggle against Bumrah in the nets. Kohli was spotted talking to Jaiswal at one point and explained to the young left-hander where he was going wrong to assist him with his faulty technique against the pacer.
While Jaiswal looked out of sorts against the pacers, he was good against the spinners and has no problems whatsoever in facing them in the nets. Kohli too spent a lot of time facing Bumrah in the nets and the senior batter himself struggled a bit against the fast bowler, who managed to hit his pads a few times. However, Kohli also unleashed some of his trademark drives in the nets.
Jaiswal, who will be tested against Bangladesh’s young pace attack, will hope he doesn’t carry his sketchy form in the series opener in Chennai which gets underway on September 19. Jaiswal is set to open the innings for India along with skipper Rohit Sharma in the two-match series.
Senior India batter Virat Kohli intervened and guided Yashasvi Jaiswal about his technique after Jasprit Bumrah cleaned him up multiple times and consistently troubled him in the nets ahead of the 1st Test against Bangladesh.
