Luis Enrique uses ‘childbirth’ as metaphor to describe PSG’s victory over Girona

New Delhi: Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, Luis Enrique, is embroiled in a bit of a controversy after using childbirth as a metaphor to describe the club’s win over Girona in the UEFA Champions League. PSG sneaked a 1-0 victory on Wednesday in their home ground after Girona’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made an error in the closing minutes, having denied previous attempts.

Reflecting on the game, Enrique admitted that despite having the upper hand, they were toyed with by the lesser prominent side, Girona. The former Spain manager mentioned that the team’s discussion at halftime was that they needed to press if they wanted to win the game. Further, he revealed that watching the closing minutes of the game made him tense.

Enrique’s next statement was that in his interaction with his counterpart, Michel, he said that this was “worse than giving birth.” He immediately corrected himself, though there was some bickering from the netizens.

Enrique spoke about the new format of the Champions League, which now features a 36-team league format instead of their earlier 32 teams. Now, each team will face eight different clubs, with the top eight teams in the league advancing to the last 16, and the remaining 16 teams will play a knockout round before advancing to the final 16.

Enrique mentioned that this has made the value of match results vague. While talking about the games, the 54-year-old manager said that each game and title is obviously difficult to win, but this format has made the length of the competition unknown. He also raised concerns that there might be games where his club will face sides who don’t have congested schedules.

Apart from this, there are also concerns about how many points are required to avoid playing an extra knockout. Though PSG’s victory came at the expense of losing their striker Marco Asensio before halftime, Enrique still echoed that his squad is strong enough to return from the setback.

The PSG coach also raised concerns about how unpredictable the new format of UCL had become in the new format.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
