New Delhi: MS Dhoni also known as Captain Cool is known for calm and composed behaviour on the field. He also has an angry side which is witnessed by everyone who plays with him. But fans saw MS Dhoni getting angry probably for the first time.
The incident happened during the IPL 2019 (Indian Premier League) match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Men in Yellow were chasing the target of 152 against RR. CSK needed 18 runs off the last over and all-rounder Ben Stokes dismissed Dhoni on the third delivery.
He then bowled a slower full-toss to Mitchell Santner, which seemed high enough to be called a no-ball. On-field umpire Ulhas Gandhe put his arm to signal a no-ball, but Bruce Oxenford (square leg umpire) overruled the decision. Santner and Jadeja questioned Gandhe about the decision and seeing all this MS Dhoni stepped onto the field and looked furious. While the decision wasn’t changed, Santner finished things in style with a six and CSK won the match by 4 wickets.
‘MS didn’t even look behind and stepped onto the field: Mohit Sharma
Speaking on the 2 Sloggers Podcast, Mohit said that all the players asked MS Dhoni not to go on the field but he didn’t listen. He further added that MS didn’t even look behind because he got very angry and stepped onto the field.
“Hum log dugout mein the hum chilla rahe the mat jao, mat jao, mat jao. Lekin unhone peeche mud ke dekha bhi nahi yar. Voh aise gaye hain na, jab laga ki bhai sher ghus gaya hai (We were in the dugout and we were like ‘Please don’t go, don’t go’. But he didn’t even look behind. The way he went out on the field, then everyone was like that lion has entered the ground)” said Mohit Sharma on 2 Sloggers Podcast.
Mohit also said that MS was very furious because he got out at the wrong time and the game was in a tricky phase and when the incident happened he didn’t stop. He further added that when the CSK captain returned to the dugout he asked for a laptop and the video analyst showed him the video. Dhoni in several interviews has admitted that he regrets doing it and that what happened in that match was unfortunate.
“He was already furious as he got out at the wrong time. The game was in a bit tricky phase and he couldn’t afford to get out because generally, he doesn’t leave it to others. He came, sat and all of a sudden the incident happened. He asked, ‘he gave it a no-ball no?’ We were like, ‘Yeah, he did signal.’ Then he just didn’t stop” Mohit added.
Skipper MS Dhoni lost his cool during the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings and the on-field umpire withdrew his no-ball call. Dhoni’s CSK teammate Mohit Sharma recalled the infamous incident while providing behind-the-scenes information.
