New York: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday urged Israel and Hamas to reach a “comprehensive ceasefire” as soon as possible over the conflict in Gaza.
Addressing the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Wang Yi said, “The question of Palestine is the biggest wound to human conscience. As we speak, the conflict in Gaza is still going on, causing more casualties with each passing day. Fighting has started in Lebanon again, but might not replace justice.”
“There must not be any delay in reaching a comprehensive ceasefire, and the fundamental way out lies in the two-state solution,” he added.
Question of Palestine Is Biggest Wound To Human Conscience
An armed conflict has been ongoing between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip and Israel since October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, Israel is attacking cadres of the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon.
Hezbollah announced today that its long-serving leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut. The group, in an official statement, confirmed that Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for nearly three decades, had died in what it described as a ‘treacherous’ raid.
The Israeli airstrike targeted Hezbollah’s central headquarters in Beirut, which resulted in the killing of Hezbollah’s chief.
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), described the operation as a “precise strike” on Hezbollah’s main base in the city. There has been no word yet on civilian casualties from the attack.
