IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Kanpur weather report: Will rain wreak havoc on Day 3?

New Delhi: No play was possible on Day 2 of the Test match between India and Bangladesh due to persistent rain at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The day started with a drizzle but the rain got heavier which made the play impossible to resume.

Only 35 overs of play was possible on the first day of the match in Kanpur. The start of the match got delayed by one hour due to the wet outfield. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first due to the overcast conditions and fast bowlers made a brilliant start.

The ball was swinging and Bangladesh’s batters struggled to score runs against pace bowlers. Akash Deep provided the first breakthrough for Team India and dismissed Zakir Hasan on a duck. He picked up his second wicket of the match by removing Shadman Islam for 24 runs.

Captain Shanto and Mominul Haque stitched a 51-run partnership for the third wicket but Ravichandran Ashwin broke their partnership and dismissed Shanto for 31 runs in the second session. Mushfiqur and Mominul were batting in the middle and they were looking well set but the umpire stopped the match due to bad light and later they called off the play due to the rain.

Rohit Sharma and Co. leading the 2-match series by 1-0 after defeating Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

What will happen to India’s WTC Final chances?

Team India is currently at the top of the World Test Championship Table 2023-25 (WTC) table with a percentage of 71.67. If Rohit Sharma and Co. manage to win the second Test their chances will be strengthened further with the Men in Blue requiring just three more wins from their remaining matches.

But if the Test match ends in a draw both teams will share six points each and the equation will get tougher for Team India. Rohit Sharma and Co. will have to win all three matches of the New Zealand Test series and also need to win at least two matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to qualify for the WTC Final.
