New Delhi: Vidarbha skipper Karun Nair continued his brilliant form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he slammed his fourth consecutive hundred in the quarter-final match against Rajasthan at the Motibaug Cricket Ground in Vadodara on Sunday, December 12.

Chasing a 292-run target, Yash Rathod and Dhruv Shorey stitched a 92-run partnership for the opening wicket. Kukna Ajay Singh removed Yash Rathod in the 19th over. Nair walked in to bat at number 3 and anchored the run-chase with Shorey who scored his century in 114 deliveries. The Vidarbha captain completed his fourth consecutive hundred in 77 deliveries with the help of 11 boundaries and three maximums.

Shortly after hitting the century, Nair smacked fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed for 24 runs in five deliveries with three fours and two sixes as Vidarbha won the match by nine wickets in 43.3 overs.

Vidarbha qualified for the quarter-final after winning all the matches in Group D of the tournament. Nair also set a new List A world record for most runs between two dismissals in his previous four outings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

He scored 112*, 44*, 163* and 111* against Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu respectively during that run. He started the tournament with a century against Jammu and Kashmir. He also became the second batter to hit five hundreds in an edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy after N Jagadeesan.

Most consecutive List A hundreds

Nair became the third batter after Devdutt Padikkal and Jagadeesan to hit four back-to-back hundreds in List A cricket. Tamil Nadu’s Jagadeesan holds the world record with five consecutive hundreds during the 2021-22 season, only Kumar Sangakkara (4) and Alviro Petersen (4) have achieved the milestone of four consecutive List A centuries outside India.
