New Delhi: Since Virat Kohli scores consistently unlike Babar Azam, there should no debate over who is the better batter among the two, legendary Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas has said.
Cricket fans of India and Pakistan often engage in comparison between the two star batters of their teams.
Kohli has been India’s best batter of the current generation with 80 international centuries while Babar has 31 hundreds across formats to be Pakistan’s leading batter.
While Kohli has maintained hos form in recent times, Babar has struggled across formats that has coincided with Pakistan’s early exits from the ODI World Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup in June.
Babar was captain of the Pakistan teams that failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup. Kohli, on the other hand, helped India win the T20 World Cup in June.
“Yeh fizool ki baatein hai (the comparisons are pointless). Virat Kohli scores in every match the other player (Babar) doesn’t score in any match so then how can you compare. The person who scores, he is the bigger player,” Abbas told PTI.
‘India strong contender for Champions Trophy’
Pakistan are scheduled to host the Champions Trophy in February-March next year and though there is no clarity over India’s trip, Abbas said they remain well placed to excel in the tournament.
“Indian team overall is very good. Their batters are doing well and the bowlers both are good. It is a very balanced team, one that plays soch samajh kar (thoughtfully),” said the batter who scored 5062 and 2572 runs in 78 Tests and 62 ODIs respectively.
“They have a very good captain, who understands cricket very well. So, when everything is going in your favour it is smooth sailing. That’s the case with India right now.
“There is a very good chance of them doing well (at the Champions Trophy) because they have a balanced team.”
