New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fielding coach Tommy Simsek rubbished fake reports claiming that former skipper MS Dhoni broke a television in the dressing room after losing the crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024.
RCB defeated CSK by 27 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 18, securing a spot in the IPL playoffs and eliminating CSK from the tournament. MS Dhoni was disappointed after he failed to finish the match for his franchise in their 201-run chase.
Dhoni smashed 25 runs off 13 balls, including a maximum on the first ball of Yash Dayal’s over. The Chennai-based franchise needed 17 runs in the last over and Dhoni was on strike. The fans were hopeful that the legendary batter will take CSK to another playoff with a spectacular finish. He smacked a six on the first ball of the over but got out in the second delivery, failing to clear the leg-side boundary.
After the match, CSK players were waiting for RCB players to shake hands but they were busy celebrating their memorable win with fans and MS Dhoni walked to the dressing room without shaking hands. After the controversy, fans on social media had a different opinion with many questioning why Dhoni didn’t wait for the RCB players to finish their celebrations. On the other side, few defended the former India captain and questioned RCB players who should have celebrated their victory after completing the customary post-match routine.
Recently few media reports claimed that MS Dhoni was frustrated after the loss against RCB and punched a television screen in the dressing room but the CSK fielding coach said that he did not break anything.
“This is absolute Rubbish! MSD did not break anything and I have never seen him aggressive after any match. Fake news!” Simsek said in a reply to an Instagram post.
‘Dhoni punched a screen outside the dressing room’: Harbhajan Singh
Earlier, Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh in an interview with Sports Yaari said that RCB players were celebrating their victory and CSK players were lined up to shake hands but they were a little late. He further added that Dhoni went inside the dressing room and punched a Tv screen.
“RCB was celebrating and they deserved to celebrate because of the way they won. I was watching the whole scene from above because I was present there. RCB was celebrating and CSK had lined up to shake hands, RCB were a little late to reach CSK. By the time Team RCB finished their celebration, (Dhoni) went inside and he punched a screen outside the dressing room. I was watching from above but it is okay that every player has his own emotions, it happens” Harbhajan said in an interview with Sports Yaari.
