Type-2 diabetes: THIS drink can control blood sugar spikes right after a meal

New Delhi: Type-2 diabetes is a condition that has no cure but is also unfortunately incredibly common. To make matters worse, the incidence of this condition is likely to rise in the coming years. But a word of relief for many, a nutritionist has revealed that drinking a particular tea can be key to controlling blood sugar spikes that may occur after a meal in diabetics. In the case of diabetes patients, it is imperative to control blood sugar levels, and for this, it is advised to eat only low glycemic index foods as they do not cause sudden rise and fall.

According to a nutritionist, drinking green tea after meals can be a good way to keep blood sugar levels under control. This drink is known to possess antioxidants and catechins, properties that boost metabolism and combat inflammation as well. As per the NHS, diabetics are likely to experience sudden rise and crash in energy which leads to debilitating symptoms such as:

Fatigue
Frequent urination
Brain fog
Excessive thirst

But drinking green tea can help keep it under control as it regulates sugar.

What is type-2 diabetes?

Type-2 diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insulin resistance, insufficiency, or absence. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps cells absorb energy from food in the form of sugar. This way, it regulates blood sugar. However, in diabetics, due to lack of the hormone or excess of it, blood sugar is not regulated the way it should be, hence causing rise and fall. This condition is often a consequence of inactivity or being overweight or a family history of the same. By drinking green tea, one can keep this crisis under control which can cause irreversible damage if not addressed timely. This can go from heart disease to arterial damage to even loss of limb.

Is green tea the only way to control blood sugar?

Matcha, too, is effective for diabetics. This finely ground powder is made from green tea leaves and it is much more concentrated. It can be consumed in the latte form or simply with water for weight loss purposes.
