New Delhi: After Liverpool took home an easy win from Crystal Palace, Premier League matchday seven saw a thrilling goal fest. Five matches took place simultaneously, and high drama followed every game, with an edge-of-the-seat contest in each. Arsenal faced Southampton at home and ensured a win to stay in the top three. Brentford’s big win over the Wolves has now helped them climb to number nine in the Premier League points table.
Reigning champions Manchester City’s game against Fulham was full of drama, but the eight-time Premier League champions ensured that they prevailed in the game. On the other hand, West Ham made a mockery of Ipswich Town’s defence as they scored four of the five goals in the game. The Leicester City win over Bournemouth was the only game that saw a singular goal throughout the match.

Arsenal were the more dominating side, with a better possession percentage for most part of a deadlock first half. Southampton made every effort to keep the hosts from scoring early. The story started to pick up pace when Cameron Archer put Southampton ahead at the Emirates stadium in the 55th. A determined assist from Mateus Fernandes ensured that Archer got the ball on the left as he cut back onto his right and found the bottom right corner.
It seemed like this had ignited a fire in the Arsenal campaign. Three minutes later, Bukayo Saka dispossessed Flynn Downes and passed it to Kai Havertz, who fired from the edge of the box after a short sprint. Gabriel Martinelli judged his run to the back post to perfection and sent Arsenal into the lead in the 68th minute following another brilliant assist from Saka. Saka scored in the 88th minute despite a brilliant defence from Yukinari Sugawara. The win gives them their 400th win home win in the Premier League.

This game has seen the most goals in matchday seven so far. Brentford also found the goalpost early with a goal after Nathan Collins headed a brilliant cross from Mikkel Damsgaard in the second minute of the game. Wolverhampton Wanderers scored their equalizer within two minutes with Matheus Cunha after Nelson Semedo pulled the ball back into the penalty area. Bryan Mbuema put the hosts in the lead again in the 20th minute and scored his sixth goal of the season after being awarded a penalty.
Wolves scored their equalizer in the 26th minute after a low cross from Ryan Ait Nouri to Strand Larsen near the post diverted beautifully past the host’s keeper. Wolves couldn’t keep their game drawn for long as Vitaly Janelt gave a perfect pass for Christian Norgaard to score from a close range. Damsgaard made his second assist of the game after a brilliant delivery from the corner as Ethan Pinnock’s header in the bottom corner for a 45th-minute goal. Fabrio Carvalho scored his first goal this season in the Premier League to ensure that a Ait Nouri goal in stoppage time wouldn’t be enough to stop Brentford from taking home three points.

Manchester City came to the game looking to extend their undefeated streak in the Premier League to 30 games. The match didn’t start in the host side’s favour, with Raul Jimenez back-heeled the ball in the six-yard box. Andreas Pereira then guided the ball from close range to give Fulham a lead in the 26th minute. City, though, soon levelled after Fulham failed to clear a corner kick. Mateo Kovacic pushed a deflected effort to equalise in the 32nd minute.
City started the second half much more revitalised as Kovacic scored his brace within two minutes of the restart after a perfect pass from Bernardo Silva. In the 82nd minute, Jeremy Doku ensured that a Rico Lewis pass in the final third didn’t go to waste and City were up 3-1. A Rodrigo Muniz goal in the 88th minute from a low pass from Reiss Nelson had got the alarms blaring for Citizens. However, they ensured that it was the final goal of the game and collected three points to be just within a point of the table toppers, Liverpool.

West Ham started their matchday seven with an early attack. Jarrod Bowen hurried a shot to Michail Antonio, who slotted a brilliant finish and put Ipswich Town on the backfoot in the first minute. Liam Delap put Ipswich back in the game in the 6th minute as he went past Lucas Paqueta and found the back of the net. The Irons were back before heading to the break as Mohammed Kudus headed a pole rebound. Despite exhibiting good runs in the first half, Ipswich couldn’t keep the scores at level.
Within four minutes after the restart, the Hammers scored their third goal as Bowen too got himself on the scoresheet with curling shot in the bottom corner. By the time Paqueta scored in the 69th minute into an empty net, it was all bt over for the Tractor Boys. They never seemed to be in the game from the second half and handed West Ham their first home win this season.

This was the quietest game of all the five games, with just one goal scored in the entirety of the game. Facundo Buonanotte sprinted forward to a lofted pass from James Justin, tackled brilliantly all the defence from Bournemouth in the box, and pushed it past the goalkeeper to put Leicester City ahead.
The win gave Leicester their first win in the top flight of English football. In the second half, Bournemouth were on the hunt, putting the foxes in a spot of bother. Illia Zabarnyi and Dango Ouattara constantly tested Leicester’s defence at every opportunity. Credit goes to the hosts for holding their nerves to ensure they ended their winless run in the Premier League.
