New Delhi: Renuka Singh Thakur is currently taking part in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, being one of the vital cogs of the Indian pace attack. She is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and has cemented her spot in the team with her capability of taking wickets at crucial points in a game. The 28-year-old also leads the pace attack and opens the bowling for the team most of the time as well.
One might think that what could a fast-medium bowler possibly be afraid of as it is the bowlers who send chills down the spine of the best batters in the world. Be it women’s or men’s cricket, there have been instances of batters making their stand clear about not wanting to face a particular bowler, most of the time pacers. A fast bowler not just bowls with extra pace, but also tends to possibly give the batter a blow or two on the body.
Now that those unversed might have gotten an idea of how risky it is to face a fast bowler, Renuka, who hails from Shimla, is well aware of that fact as well. In a recent interview with actress and host Mandira Bedi for SheThePeople, Renuka was asked about the thing that scares her the most. The speedster took her time as she was continuously forced by her teammates surrounding her to reveal the answer.
Shreyanka Patil said, “Be honest Thakur,” while Mandira motivated her to let it out so that she could face it with more power smiling through it. Renuka hesitantly said, “To face a medium pacer.” Her response immediately left her team members in splits and she herself felt quite the shame. The irony here is that a fast bowler who scares the opponent batters with her pace is herself scared of it the most that she doesn’t want to face a fast bowler.

Renuka gives India first breakthrough
Team India is taking on arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in a highly awaited Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash. Pakistan Women opted to bat first, hoping to pile up a huge score on the board but their efforts were given an early dent by Renuka who cleaned up Gull Feroza in the first over itself. Ironically this was exactly what Renuka was talking about as the three stumps were made a mess.
Pakistan doesn’t seem to capitalise on their decision to bat first as the Indian bowlers are wreaking havoc in Dubai. It is a slow pitch and the batters of both teams are expected to struggle. But the Indian bowlers seem to have taken a lesson or two from their previous defeat and are here to make amends. Pakistan were 47/4 after 11 overs as Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, and Shreyanka Patil joined the wicket taking party.
