New Delhi: Mumbai Indians’ star batter Tilak Varma will lead India A with Abhishek Sharma acting as his deputy in the upcoming men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup which is scheduled to begin on October 18 and will be concluding on the 27th with final showdown. All the games will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1) in Muscat, Oman. As many as eight Asian teams are taking part in the event to vie for the title.
21-year-old Varma, who has played four ODIs and 16 T20Is for India has got the opportunity to showcase his captaincy talent early into his career. Meanwhile, for Abhishek, who has played eight T20Is, the tournament will be a stepping stone in checking his captaincy skillset. Rahul Chahar has also been roped into the squad, having played six T20Is and one ODI for Team India.

IPL lot to represent India
The India A squad boasts several players with Indian Premier League (IPL) experience including batters like Anuj Rawat from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Ayush Badoni from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Prabhsimran Singh from Punjab Kings (PBKS), Nehal Wadhera from Mumbai Indians (MI), and Ramandeep Singh from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The bowling department will feature R Sai Kishore from Gujarat Titans (GT), Vaibhav Arora from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rasikh Salam from Delhi Capitals (DC) and Aaqib Khan as well.
The Indian team is placed in Group B and will kick off their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan A on October 19. Hosts Oman A and UAE A are the other group members. Group A comprises of Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka A. It would be for the first time the tournament will be played in the T20 format. The last five editions were held in the 50-over format.
