New Delhi: Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer slammed fake reports of him missing his side’s next match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Iyer, who is currently out of favour from the Indian Test team, has been plying his trade for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. The right-hander slammed a brilliant century in his side’s 2nd round clash against Maharashtra last week.
Iyer was also named in Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming clash against Tripura in the 3rd round which gets underway on Saturday, October 26. However, a report in Cricbuzz claimed that the prolific right-hander has been ruled out of Mumbai’s next game against Tripura as he has been advised to rest for at least a week. The report also stated that Iyer has not travelled to Agartala for the game.
However, Iyer took to X on Wednesday to call out a user, who had shared the fake news of him getting ruled out of Mumbai’s next game. “Shreyas Iyer set to miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game – Cricbuzz,” the user had posted. “Guys, seriously, let’s do some homework before publishing news,” Iyer wrote, responding to the tweet. The X user later deleted his tweet and apologised to the India batter.

Iyer, who managed scores of 0 and 30 in Mumbai’s season opener against Baroda in the ongoing Ranji season, bounced back with a brilliant century in their next game against Maharashtra. Iyer played a fabulous knock of 142 runs in Mumbai’s first innings while batting at no.5.
With the help of centuries from Iyer and opener Ayush Mhatre (176), Mumbai posted a huge total of 441 runs, in response to Maharashtra’s first-innings total of 126 runs. Mumbai went on to beat Maharastra by 9 wickets in the game to register their first win of the season having lost to Baroda by 84 runs in their season opener.
Shreyas Iyer aims to win back Test spot
Iyer was part of India’s last home Test series against England earlier this year. However, he was left out of the squad after the series opener and has since failed to make his comeback. The right-hander has been in fine form in the domestic circuit and will be aiming to win back his spot in the Indian Test squad.
In his absence, India have backed Sarfaraz Khan in the middle order and the 26-year-old has enjoyed an impressive run so far with 350 runs in his first 4 Tests. Sarfaraz slammed his maiden Test ton in the recently concluded 1st Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
Shreyas Iyer called out the fake report of him missing Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game against Tripura due to a shoulder issue.
